Every word, as recorded.

AndreasYou said on the phone that you would rather talk about flour than about yourself.

ChristinaI meant it. The flour is the only part of this that has not changed since my grandmother.

AndreasAnd everything else has.

ChristinaEverything. The oven, the hours, the neighbourhood, the price of butter. We changed supplier three times in one winter.

AndreasHow did you know it was wrong?

ChristinaThe bread told us before the accountant did. It sat differently in the tin. You cannot argue with that.

[a tray goes into the oven]

AndreasDoes anyone else notice?

ChristinaTwo customers. Out of maybe four hundred. Both of them came to the counter and asked what happened.

AndreasWhat did you tell them?

ChristinaThe truth. That we were looking for something cheaper and it was not worth it.
